Beth Tikvah Joins Paramus Jewish Community Center

The synagogue left their previous home in New Milford to join the larger congregation in Paramus.

The Jewish Community Center of Paramus will be seeing an increase in congregants going forward thanks to a "joining agreement" with the Beth Tikvah synagogue of New Milford, the Jewish Standard reported.

The New Milford synagogue reportedly had a decline in membership and ceased hosting its own Hebrew school in recent years. They had about 120 member units, while the Paramus center has about 450, according to the Jewish Standard.

Jacob Bauer, first vice president at the Paramus congregation, told the Standard that they were undergoing a "joining agreement" and not a merger.

"It shows they are joining us and are being considered equals," Bauer told the Standard.

For congregants coming from the New Milford synagogue, the move to Paramus includes benefits like daily prayer services. For Paramus members, it means the addition of some egalitarian services.

The former synagogue in New Milford is being sold to a Korean church. The Standard reported the sale was about $1 million.
