Fresh & Fancy Barn Opening, 100th Anniversary Celebration

Families came out to celebrate the opening of the White Barn and the farm's 100th anniversary.

Meg Low worked around the clock getting everything ready for what she hoped would be a perfect day on the farm for Saturday's grand opening of the newly constructed White Barn and the farm's 100th anniversary celebration.

"The day," she said, "is turning out to be everything I had hoped it would be."

The day was picture perfect as families from near and far came to Fresh & Fancy Farms to enjoy a day of crafts, farmmade iced teas and treats and to celebrate the grand opening of the White Barn, as well as the farm's 100th anniversary.

While parents roamed the rows of flowering plants, Meg entertained the children with painting flower pots and making paper flowers.

Mayor Ann Subrizi and Councilman Dominic Colucci came to celebrate the grand opening and 100th anniversary.

Overlooking the bank of the brook that runs through the farm, Subrizi shared her memory as a young girl watching former farm owner Bill Klinger build the stone wall that lines the brook.

"He took the time to explain to me exactly why he needed to put that wall there--to keep the water from eroding the soil," she said. "I've never forgotten that memory."

Sharon Klinger, previous owner of the farm, paid a visit with her daughter Debbie, to give her blessing and to celebrate with the Low's.

"The last time I was here, the family was in the midst of making all of this come together," Klinger said. "They did a great job."

Sharon Klinger is the widow of Bill Klinger whose family began farming that piece of land on River Road a century ago.

"I'm so happy knowing that the land will continue to be a farm," Klinger said. "But every time I'm here, I can't help but be the farmer's wife again and tell Don (Low) where certain potted plants should be placed," she laughed.
