New Milford's 3rd Annual Fire Department Run 5K and Family Fun

New Milford Fire Co. 1 is hosting their annual 5K Run/Walk and Kids Dash on Saturday, June 16. The 5K will kick off at 8:30am for runners and walkers.

The kids 1/2 mile dash (for children age 12 and under) and the 150 yard sprint (for children age 8 and under) will start at 9:30am.

In addition to participating in National Night Out, Toys for Tots, and the Christmas Tree Lighting, NMFD Co. 1 also hosts Fire Awareness events and the Rag-A-Muffin parade for Halloween.

According to members of Co. 1, the 5K was established in 2010 as a fundraiser that would be open to the entire community and give the firefighters an opportunity to interact with the community on a social level.  

The run's first year brought out 400 participants and a lot of excitement. In 2011, the event brought out more runners and an even bigger buzz. Co. 1's goal for 2012 is to "continue to make the event better and more enjoyable for the residents of New Milford and their families."

New this year is team registration available for teams of four. Family registration will still be available.

In-person registration and packet pick-up will be held:

• Thursday, June 14th, 5-9pm, RoadRunner Sports, 65 Route 4W, Paramus
• Friday, June 15th, 4-8pm, NMFD Co. 1, 249 Center Street, New Milford

Entry Fees:                      

• 5K Run: $20.00 (pre-register by 6/4/12)
•  $25.00 (6/5/12 thru Race Day)
•  $18.00 (USATF-NJ Member thru 6/8/12)   

• 5K Walk: $10.00 (pre-register by 6/4/12)
• $15.00 (6/5/12 thru Race Day)
• 5K Walk FREE without shirt or raffle ticket

• Family Registration: 2 Parents & up to 4 children $60.00 (pre-register by 6/4/12)
• $80.00 (6/5 thru race day)

• Team Registration: 4 team members $60.00 (pre-register by 6/4/12)
• $80.00 (6/5 thru race day)

• Kids 1/2 Mile Dash: FREE (7-12) Sign-up in-person or race morning
• Kids 150 yard Sprint: FREE (8 under) Sign-up in-person or race morning

Race day registration is from 7:00am – 8:15am. The 5K run will kick off at 8:30am. Trophies will be awarded for the top team, top family, and top New Milford resident. There will also be raffle prizes given away every 15 minutes to participants. Prizes include iPods, Giants tickets, sports memorabilia, gift cards, and many more items.

There will also be refreshments, activities for the kids and a DJ. Photographer Brett Dzadik will once again be taking shots of the runners.

Proceeds raised from the run will benefit the NMFD Co.1. The funds will be used for training programs, additional uniform expenses, fire awareness initiatives, and recruiting expenses.
