NJ Teen Found Dead In Pond: Police

NEW MILFORD, NJ - Authorities are investigating the cause of death of a New Jersey high school student who went swimming in a local pond and did not resurface.

New Milford police discovered the body of the 18-year-old New Milford High School student at Hard Castle Pond on Friday following a report of a missing swimmer made around 7:15 p.m.

The New Milford Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management assisted with search efforts, as well as water search and rescue teams from the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management and other local fire departments, police said. At around 10 p.m., the search parties located the missing teen underwater.

Police did not identify the teen in a press statement.

Detectives with the New Milford Police Department are working with the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death, authorities said.
