Person Stabbed During Fight Near New Milford High School

Two individuals are in custody following the Monday fight, according to New Milford Schools Superintendent Peter Galasso.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — A fight near New Milford High School on Monday ended with a stabbing that left one person hospitalized, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities said police were called to a large fight near Madison Plaza on River Road around 3:15 p.m. After arriving, officers found the victim suffering from a stab wound.

Prosecutors said others involved in the altercation fled before police arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

In a letter to parents obtained by the Bergen Record, New Milford Schools Superintendent Peter Galasso said the fight happened in the school parking lot shortly after dismissal. According to Galasso, the fight involved New Milford High School students and other juveniles who were not associated with the district.

It's unclear if the victim was a New Milford student.

Galasso said two individuals have since been taken into custody, the Record reported.

The incident remains under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Milford Police Department.
