This Weekend In and Around New Milford

Take a hike. On the Palisades this weekend. On Saturday, take a look into the how the other half lived almost a century ago as historical interpreter Eric Nelsen shows you the remains of the mansions that once lined the cliffs of the Palisades. The "Millionaire's Row" hike is one of the most popular hikes offered. Meet at 10am at the Kearney House at Alpine Boat Basin & Picnic Area (Alpine park entrance/PIP Exit 2). The hike is approximately 5 miles, 4 hours, moderate pace. Bring lunch. Free.

War of Outosts re-enactment at Historic New Bridge Landing Saturday at 11am to 4pm and Sunday 11am to 3pm. The event will bring to life the running battles that occurred in Bergen County during the Spring of 1780 and highlight New Bridge Landing as a battlefield.

Sunday is Fire Awareness Day in New Milford, rescheduled from last Sunday's wash out. The event will take place from 1pm to 4pm in the parking lot behind behind New Milford Borough Hall. All families are invited to come out, have fun, and help the Fire Department teach your children the importance of fire safety.

Activities will include:

  • -Meet Sparky the fire dog
  • -Dialing 911
  • -Learning Stop Drop & Roll
  • -Wear Firefighter’s Gear
  • -Learning to escape a burning building in our smoke house
  • -Fire truck rides
  • -Fire hose demonstrations

Best of all? New Milford Public Schools are offering one free homework pass for each child who completes the Fire Safety Course.

Head down to the Hudson River Sunday for the “Hudson River Barn Dance”  with Dave Harvey and New York City Barn Dance. 2pm to 4 pm at the Alpine Pavilion at Alpine Boat Basin & Picnic Area (Alpine park entrance/PIP Exit 2). Open to all (even wallflowers!), no experience or partner needed. Free. Light refreshments available for purchase.
