This Weekend in New Milford

Arbor Day Festivities, dispose of old and unused medication, walk for a cure, car wash and bake sale, learn to ride a two-wheeler.

Looking for something to do this weekend? You don't even have to leave home. Here's what's going on in New Milford:

Arbor Day Festivities: The Shade Tree Commission along with the Environmental Commission will be holding Arbor Day Festivities at the tree farm located behind the recycling center by the DPW from 9am to noon Saturday, April 28. 

100 tube seedlings will be handed out. The morning will be filled with fun activities for the whole family.

"Arbor Day not only helps to promote awareness and growth in the community," Shade Tree Commission Chairman Steve Perrone said. "It's a way to celebrate the environment."

: The  will be participating in Operation Take Back New Jerseyon Saturday, April 28, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Operation Take Back New Jersey gives residents an opportunity to rid their homes of unused, unwanted, or expired medications by turning them in to law enforcement officials who will dispose of the substances in a safe and non-hazardous manner.

Medication may be disposed of in its original container or by removing the medication from the container and disposing directly into the drug disposal box. If it is disposed of in its original container, all identifiable information should be removed. 

Liquid products such as cough medicine should remain sealed tightly in its original container.

Syringes and other sharp objects will not be accepted.  

The collection site will be New Milford Police Headquarters.  Det. Sgt. Brian Long will be in charge of the effort and will remain with the drug disposal box at all times.

5th Grade Car Wash and Bake Sale Fundraiser: The 5th graders from Berkley and Gibbs are holding a car wash and bake sale fundraiser in the parking lot behind borough hall Saturday, April 28 from 9am to 2pm. $5 for car wash and $1 for baked goods. 

: NMHS Senior Gabriel Colucci is celebrating his eighth year in remission from Nephrotic Syndrome, a rare kidney disease. He will celebrate this milestone at the New Milford NephCure Walk on Sunday, April 29, a walk that he has organized as part of his  senior project to raise awareness for NephCure. 

The NephCure Walk will take place on the track behind the New Milford High School. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m.

Learn to Ride a Two-Wheeler: On Sunday, April 29, Solomon Schechter will be hosting their popular "Learn to Ride a Two-Wheeler" program from 10am to noon at Solomon Schechter School, 275 McKinley Avenue, New Milford.

If you feel like stepping out of town:

The Ridgewood YMCA is hosting Healthy Kids Day from 10am to 2pm. Ridgewood YMCA is located at 112 Oak Street, Ridgewood. 

Lion's Den Coffee House & Open Mic in Teaneck. Musicians, poets, comedians, dancers, and other performance artists are invited to the monthly Lion's Den Coffee House and Open Mic in Carroll Hall. Participants are invited to offer acoustic or lightly amplified music, poetry, comedy, dance, dramatic readings, or other types of performance art. Anyone wishing to participate can sign up on arrival. The Lion's Den is located at St. Mark's Church, Carroll Hall 118 Chadwick Road, Teaneck.
