Berkeley Heights Police Mourn Death Of Retired Sgt. David Bogert

Bogert was a police officer for 25 years with the Berkley Heights Police Department from 1978 to 2004. Viewing and funeral are Monday.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — The Berkeley Heights Police Department is mourning the death of retired Sergeant David Charles Bogert, 62, of Edison, who died on Jan. 3, 2018 at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Bogert was a police officer for 25 years with the Berkley Heights Police Department from 1978 to 2004.

"Dave will always be remembered by those who worked with him as a knowledgeable, caring police officer and boss," Berkeley Heights Police said. "He always sought to improve upon his knowledge in traffic safety matters, accident reconstruction and supervision. He also served as a firearms instructor, conducting training for the men and women of the department."

Bogert was predeceased by his parents, David and Marylouise (Kriz), and his sister, Noreen Bogert.

Surviving are his son, Christopher of Howell, his daughter, Stephanie Bogert of North Bennington, Vermont, his brother, Richard of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords with a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will be private.
