Berkeley Heights Sisters Featured on ABC Breast Cancer Special

The Zichichi sisters of Berkeley Heights were featured this weekend in an ABC special on breast cancer.

The sisters —  Patti Broccoli, Cathy Balsamo, Cindy Lepore — all had preventative surgery after testing positive for the BRCA1 genetic mutation that increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

The special, "Breast Cancer: Answers, Updates and Progress," focuses "on the progress we're making on many issues of great concern to those who are diagnosed with breast cancer," according to ABC. 

"With the latest Supreme Court ruling ending the ability to patent the breast cancer genes and the wide public interest in the prophylactic measures taken by Angelina Jolie, we feature a New Jersey family with a surprising story of four siblings who all test positive for these genes and how they deal with their health care issues."
