Letter to the Editor: Support Open Space Referendum on Nov. 8

Gloria Badgley, a New Providence resident, asks voters to join her in voting "yes" for the Open Space Referendum on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to voters to support the Open Space Referendum on November 8th.  I currently serve as a member of the Community Activities & Advisory Board and think that this is very important issue to support.  As I understand the question on the ballot in front of us, we have the opportunity to use some of the open space monies that have already been collected that remain unactionable because there simply isn’t much open space in New Providence to consider buying.  It’s also very clear to me that there are several projects that we could address if only we had funding.

The current fiscal climate and the recent hardship of passing Borough budgets tells us all that we need a solution without a tax impact on residents, while addressing the majority of residents who believe in the need to renovate and improve the facilities we already own.  To me, I see this as a great opportunity to do something for our infrastructure, while retaining a fiscally responsible approach to our municipal budget.

I would like to see us make some long overdue improvements within our community.   I believe every resident agrees that this needs to be a priority, but we have to stop talking about it and get something done.  If you believe that something needs to be done to improve the open space, parks and recreation facilities we already own, I hope you will join me in voting “YES” for the Open Space Referendum on November 8th.

Sincerely,
