Local Justice: Decisions in Municipal Court

The Municipal Court handled three criminal cases arising in New Providence. There were no criminal case arising in Berkeley Heights.

The New Providence Municipal Court handled three criminal cases.

In State v. Nicholas L. Lyoyd, of Lincoln Park, the State charged defendant with shoplifting Similac Baby Formula from the A & P.  Defendant pleaded guilty.  The Court sentenced defendant to 25 days community service.  The Court also imposed a $1006 fine, $30 in costs, a $50 VCCB (Violent Crimes Compensation Board) penalty, and a $75 Safe Neighborhood fee. 

In State v. Donald R. Mueller, of New Providence, the State charged defendant with possession of drug paraphernalia   Defendant pleaded guilty.  The Court suspended defendant's driver's license for 6 months.  The Court also imposed a $500 DEDR (Drug Enforcement and Demand Reduction) fee, $300 fine, $30 in costs, $50 VCCB penalty, and a $75 Safe Neighborhood fee.

In State v. Shanon E. Cook, of Gillette, the State charged defendant with possession of drug paraphernalia.  The Court entered a conditional discharge.  The Court imposed a one year term of probation and also imposed $750 in fines and surcharges. 

The convenes every other Thursday in the New Providence Municipal Center, located at 360 Elkwood Ave.  The next court date is December 1, 2011.
