New Providence Cops Make Arrests For DWI, Marijuana: Police

2 arrests came after police got reports of suspicious vehicles.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — Several people were charged with driving while intoxicated while a New Providence woman was charged with possession of marijuana recently, police reported.

July 23: Special Officer Kevin Gutierrez arrested Marianna Martins, 20, of New Providence for possession of marijuana 50 grams or less and possession of paraphernalia, police said. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a suspicious vehicle on Spring Floral Drive, police said. Martins was processed and released pending a future court appearance.

July 25: Sgt. Andrew Diamond arrested Seryna Zayas, 26, of West Orange for driving while intoxicated, police said. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Mountain Avenue, police said. Zayas was processed and released pending a future court appearance.

July 26: Sgt. Andrew Diamond arrested Francis Gabaldon, 25, of West Orange for driving while intoxicated, authorities said. The arrest stemmed from a check on a suspicious vehicle on Passaic Street, police said. Gabaldon was processed and released pending a future court appearance.

July 29: Patrolman Nicholas Guerriero arrested Amilcar Carrera-Figueroa, 36, of Plainfield on an active warrant out of Dunellen, police said. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Mountain Avenue, authorities said. Carrera-Figueroa was released on his own recognizance pending a future court date.

July 29: Special Officer Kevin Gutierrez arrested Oscar Ramirez, 64, of Summit for driving while intoxicated, police said. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a hit-and-run crash that occurred in a parking lot on Springfield Avenue, authorities said. Ramirez was released pending a future court appearance.

July 30: Patrolman David Rodriguez arrested Juan Calderon-Urea, 22, of New Providence for possession of paraphernalia and an active warrant out of Woodbridge, police said. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a dispute on Westview Avenue, police said. Calderon-Urea was processed, then turned over to Woodbridge Police Department and was issued a future court date for his charge.

July 31: Patrolman Nicholas Guerriero arrested Shavar Hooper-Powell, 32, of Hillside on an active warrant out of Newark, police said. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Diamond Hill Road, authorities said. Hooper-Powell was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.

Aug. 2: Patrolman Daniel Nozza arrested Sheila Hoff, 49, of Berkeley Heights for driving while intoxicated, police said. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into a motor vehicle crash on Mountain Avenue, police said. Hoff was released pending a future court appearance.

Aug. 9: Sgt. Andrew Diamond arrested Kason Taylor, 26, of Vauxhall on an active warrant out of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, police said. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Southgate Road, officials said. Taylor was turned over to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

Aug. 10: Patrolman Jeffrey Bruder arrested Shanice Alexander, 29, of Newark on active warrants out of Newark and Elizabeth, police said. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Gales Dr, police said. Alexander was released on her own recognizance pending future court appearances.
