New Providence Election Day Guide

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. How will you vote in this election? Tell us by voting in our polls!

Election Day is tomorrow, Nov. 8, and polls in New Providence will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The candidates for Borough Council, who are running uncontested, include Councilman Armand Galluccio, Councilman Alan Lesnewich and Dr. Bob Robinson (R).

There are also two referendum questions on the ballot regarding the use of Open Space funds and allowing the sale of Liquor Consumption Licenses in New Providence. The exact questions and explanatory statements that will appear on the ballot are:

Liquor Consumption Licenses Referendum

“Shall the retail sale of all kinds of alcoholic beverages, for consumption on the licensed premise by the glass or other open receptacle pursuant to chapter one of the Title Intoxicating Liquors of the Revised Statutes (§ 33:1-1 et seq.), be permitted in this municipality?”

Explanatory Statement

A “Yes” is a vote to grant the Borough Council the authority to issue licenses to permit the retail sale of all kinds of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the licensed premise by the glass or other open receptacle in the Borough in accordance with the statute (N.J.S.A. 33:1-1, et seq.) and the regulations issued there under. A ”No” is a vote to prohibit such retail sale of alcoholic beverages in the Borough.

Open Space Referendum

“Shall the Borough Council of the Borough of New Providence amend the Open Space Ordinance (§70-1) to allow the existing fund and future funds to be used for acquisition of open space and improvements to passive and active recreation facilities?”

Explanatory Statement

The non-binding public question herein proposes expansion of the permitted use of the funds collected in accordance with the Open Space Ordinance (§70-1). In addition to acquisition of open space, improvement to and maintenance of both passive and active recreation facilities, which may include athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, and other similar or related improvements, would be a permitted use of said funds.

The borough recently organized two public forums for members of the community to attend to learn more about each referendum.
