New Providence Police Blotter: Feb. 3—18

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

02-03-2012 — Detective Donald Sretenovic charged Matthew Riviere, age 18, of New Providence with criminal mischief after an investigation was completed into damages done to a hotel room on December 31, 2011.

02-08-2012 — Detective Donald Sretenovic charged Euglent Domi, age 33, of Bergenfield with theft by deception after an investigation into a chimney scam was completed. 

02-09-2012 — Patrolman Michael Hand arrested Maris Bardhoku, age 18, of New Providence and Detective Donald Sretenovic arrested Joseph Ferratti, age 18, of New Providence with theft of copper wiring from the construction site at the .  The arrests came after an investigation into the theft at the High School.  Maris Bardhoku was also charged with fencing the stolen items.  Both were released pending court dates.

02-09-2012 — A borough resident was contacted by someone claiming to be an attorney’s office in Maryland advising her that her granddaughter was arrested for DWI.  The person claimed that the resident needed to send $4,700.00 to him to cover legal fees and to get the granddaughter out of jail.  The money was wired via Western Union to a check cashing business in Greenbelt, Maryland.  Detectives are investigating this scam with the Greenbelt, Maryland Police Department.  Residents are urged to check identities and to make sure all information is legitimate before sending any money or giving out any personal information.  Be suspicious of anyone who wants you to wire money because it’s hard to trace and you will be unable to get it back.  Also be suspicious of anyone who claims to be with a government agency, claims to be someone you care about, or wants you to act immediately.

02-09-2012 — Corporal Daniel Henn charged Angel Guerrero Ortiz, age 33, of Plainfield with operating an uninsured vehicle after his vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation.

02-10-2012 — Detective Donald Sretenovic charged Barry Morgan, age 27, of Newark with two counts of forgery and uttering a forged document and one charge of theft by deception after an investigation into two different fraud cases at borough banks.

02-10-2012 — A resident of a borough apartment complex reported his apartment was burglarized sometime in the past month.  Proceeds from the burglary included a laptop and numerous credit cards.  The crime is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.

02-11-2012 — Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested Jessica Shroder, age 28, of Chatham with driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with an expired registration, and for reckless driving.  Patrols responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash and through an investigation arrested Ms. Shroder.

02-11-2012 — Patrols found graffiti on the New Providence High School while conducting a security check.

02-13-2012 — Sergeant Justine Kennedy arrested Noah Shandick, age 34, of Budd Lake on an outstanding warrant out of Roxbury after several motor vehicle violations were observed.  Mr. Shandick was also issued a summons for driving while suspended, cracked taillight, and failure to produce valid insurance.  He was released after posting bail.

02-13-2012 — Patrolman Michael Scuorzo charged Carlos Alberto Sanchez Jr., age 40, of New Providence with operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating a vehicle with fictitious plates, and for failing to maintain lamps on his vehicle.  Mr. Sanchez was stopped for the fictitious plates.

02-17-2012 — Detective Sretenovic charged Joseph Gelormini, age 18, of New Providence with fencing after an investigation was completed into a theft of copper wiring that occurred at the High School.

02-18-2012 — A resident of Hickory Place reported a fraudulent credit card transaction made to a Macy’s card.  The total charge was approximately $7,000.00 to an old account in his name.  The fraud is currently under investigation by the detective bureau.

02-18-2012 — Patrolman DiParisi arrested Shane Smith, age 41, of Archdale, North Carolina on an outstanding warrant out of Robbinsville.  Mr. Smith’s vehicle was stopped for the borough ordinance violation of being overweight on Union Avenue.  He was released after posting the bail.
