New Providence Police Respond To Vehicle-Related Incidents
Throughout the last week, patrols responded to three reports of hit and run motor vehicle incidents, damage to a vehicle overnight and a motor vehicle being hit by a large rock.

New Providence Police recently handled a number of vehicle-related incidents, including three hit and run motor vehicle accidents, one report of a motorist's vehicle being hit by a large rock, and damage reported to a vehicle overnight.
On Dec. 6, a Murray Hill Square resident reported that someone had caused damage to her vehicle overnight while it was parked. She stated that someone had ripped off the hood ornament and scratched the side of the vehicle.
Patrols also responded to a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident in the Village Lot on Dec. 6. The victim stated that his vehicle was struck while it was parked. A witness observed a blue, BMW X5, strike the vehicle and leave the scene. The witness was able to obtain a license plate. Through an investigation, police have identified the driver and charges are pending.

Also on Dec. 6, patrols responded to Passaic Street and Elkwood Avenue on a report from a motorist that while he was driving on Passaic Street, his vehicle was struck by a large rock. The rock smashed the windshield but the driver was not injured. The driver did not see anyone throw the rock and patrols were unable to locate the responsible individuals.
Police also handled a report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash on 4th street on Dec. 8. The victim reported that while her vehicle was parked in the roadway it was struck by an unknown vehicle.

On Dec. 12, Patrols responded to another report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash in the Village Lot. The victim’s parked vehicle was struck by another vehicle. A witness recorded the license plate of the vehicle that left the scene. Officers located the driver of the vehicle through an investigation. The driver is a 17 year old juvenile and was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, careless driving and failure to report a motor vehicle crash.
