“Congratulations on these incredible works of art. The talent on display here is amazing and I am very pleased this showcase gave all of you the opportunity to show your abilities and hard work and meet other young artists,” Lance stated at the event in a release.
The Congressional Art Contest began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since that time more than 650,000 high school students have been involved in the competition. The winning art work will hang in a corridor in the United States Capitol Building for one year along with art from similar art contests held in congressional districts across the country.
