Pioneers Off to Winning Start, Highlanders Suffer Loss
Both opening night football games suspended by lightning.

New Providence and Governor Livingston football teams both opened their 2013 campaigns last week, with differing results.
New Providence got off to a positive start, decisively beating Brearley 34-14 while Governor Livingston fell to Scotch Plains-Fanwood 20-14 in games that were initially suspended due to lightning.
Brearley couldn't counter New Providence's ground attack, as the Pioneers amassed 334 rushing yards, according to the Alternative Press. Quarterback Jack Harvey picked up 145 yards rushing, and senior running back C.J. Kliesch scored three touchdowns in a game that was completed Friday.
Governor Livingston played a tight first half Thursday, leading SPF 7-0 at halftime. But the Highlanders fell victim to the Raiders' big play capability, as SPF broke three touchdown plays of 40 yards or more in the second half.
New Providence travels to Belvidere and Governor Livingston heads to Voorhees, both with 7 p.m. Friday kickoffs.
