Upcoming Document Shredding, Recycling Events in Union County
Residents can shred personal documents, dispose of household chemicals or recycle scrap metal.

The Union County Freeholder Board is sponsoring several upcoming events, enabling resident to shred personal documents, dispose of household chemical or recycle scrap metal for free.
A mobile paper shredding event will be held at the Union County Vocational-Technical School, 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents can bring up to four bags of documents for shredding.
According to Union County, there are two additional paper shredding events during the month of April. On Wednesday, April 22, there will be an event in Warinanco Park, in the skating center parking lot, and on Friday, April 24, at Cedar Brook Park in Plainfield.

In addition to document shredding events, Union County will be hosting a household hazardous waste program and a scrap metal recycling event.
On Saturday, April 18, a household hazardous waste program will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union County Vocational-Technical School in Scotch Plains. Items for drop off include old pesticides and herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints and deck stain, according to Union County.

Additionally, a scrap metal recycling program will take place on Saturday, April 18. There are three locations around the county for residents to drop off metal for recycling, including one in Cranford, Rahway and Westfield.
All locations will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, metal lawn furniture and more.
