Recreation Events Rescheduled after Oaklander's Death
The Oakland Recreation Department has cancelled numerous activities, including the baseball and softball kickoff parade.

In the wake of the death of Michael Altana, a 14-year-old Valley Middle School student, The Oakland Recreation Commission has decided to cancel their parade and baseball/softball kickoff celebration planned for Saturday, May 4.
The parade and baseball/softball kickoff has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 19 at noon.

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the untimely passing of Michael Altana. Please keep the Altana family in your prayers during this most difficult time.
Altana’s funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Multiple practices, games and events related to Oakland recreation have been cancelled for this weekend. Be sure to check with Oakland recreation for more information on cancellations and rescheduling.
