Crime Rates Rise in Oakland
New Jersey State Police show that compared to the first half of 2013, Fort Lee saw more incidents of violent and nonviolent crime in 2014.

New Jersey State Police have released their Uniform Crime Report for the first two quarters of 2014. According to their reports, Oakland’s crime index has risen from 43 to 83 in the last year, a 57 percent increase in overall crime.
Fort Lee saw only 2 incidents of violent crime between January and June of 2013, and 3 such incidents in the same period of 2014. Despite the small numbers, that’s a 50 percent increase in violent crime.
Nonviolent crime rose by a whopping 95 percent: Oakland Police reported 41 nonviolent crimes in the first half of 2013, and 80 in the first half of 2014.
