Ramapo-Indian Hills Announces Interim Superintendent

The board's choice, Beverly MacKay, is currently in her tenth year with the district.

The Ramapo-Indian Hills school district didn't have to look very far to find an interim superintendent.

Director of Curriculum Beverly MacKay will serve as the interim superintendent starting next week and ending in August.

“As a product of this school district, I am really excited for this opportunity,” said MacKay. “It’s an honor to be able to give back to a district that has provided so many opportunities for me.”

Details of her contract are still in the works.

MacKay is currently finishing her tenth year with the district. She spent two years as assistant principal at Indian Hills, three years as district director of student personnel and the last five years as the director of curriculum.

“We absolutely have confidence in her,” said Board of Ed President Lynn Budd. “The staff and faculty know her well and know that she is a hard worker. She’s very confident, very creative and she has been intimately involved with most of the initiatives we have going. We’re very pleased to have her.”

RIH Superintendent C. Lauren Schoen's 4-year contract is ending this summer, but she'll be using accumulated vacation time to end her term early and board of education meeting set for Monday, May 13, will be Schoen’s last.

The board has already selected a candidate for superintendent to whom they plan to offer a 2-year contract in the coming months, they said. The County Superintendent is currently looking through the Board’s recommendation of this currently unnamed candidate.

MacKay will serve as superintendent until August when the new superintendent is expected to take over. An announcement on the new superintendent could be made as soon as next week.

“I’ll be working with the new superintendent closely,” said MacKay. “It’s really an honor to help out for the interim and I am confident that we will work well with the new superintendent.”
