Library Brings Back Computer Workshops

"Back by popular demand" after a July run, the Oakland Public Library will again be offering Wednesday morning computer classes through the month of August, beginning this week.

The library offers a basic keyboard and mouse self-study course, a prerequisite for the intermediate courses offered this month.

Here's the schedule, as provided by the library:

Aug. 7: Introduction to Computers

Basics on how PCs work and what makes them tick. What is a computer? How does a computer work? How is a computer different from the internet? What can you do with a computer?

Aug. 14: Internet 101

What is the internet? What is email? What are some helpful websites that I can visit to get started on the internet? What is a web browser? Surfing and navigating the web. Performing simple searches. Internet safety and etiquette.

Aug. 21: Tour of the Internet

Learn about some fascinating web destinations for your daily internet dose of     information and entertainment. Discover fun blogs and tools to discover new     websites. How can I search more effectively? 

Aug. 28: Microsoft Word Basics

Need to write and print out a business letter? Create a quick resume? Thinking about writing a novel? .doc or .docx? This class will show you how to get started formatting and editing Microsoft Word 2010 documents.

A space can be reserved in the classes at the circulation desk, or by calling the library at 201-337-3742. All classes are held Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
