Stranger Offered Candy To Ridgewood Child In Possible 'Luring' Attempt: Cops

Ridgewood police are investigating a possible "luring" incident in which a stranger offered candy to a child, they said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Ridgewood police are investigating an incident in which a stranger pulled up to a home on Sunday and offered candy to a child in front, they said.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to Captain Glenn Ender, police responded to Ellington Road on a report of a possible luring attempt.

A witness told police that a man in a silver vehicle stopped at a house and offered candy to a child playing in the front yard, police said.

"Fortunately, an alert adult from the residence made their presence known and the suspicious person fled the scene without making further contact with the child," Ender said.

Police were patrolling nearby and looked for the person and car, but had not found a suspect as of Monday.

Ender said, "We encourage anyone who may have information about this incident to contact us. As always, we ask that residents stay vigilant in looking out for one another and to contact us immediately if they feel that someone or something is suspicious."
