Wyckoff and Oakland Homes Join List of Historical Tours

Get tickets for these historical house tours, which will be on May 18 to celebrate Northwest Bergen History Coalition's third annual History Day

This county has a rich history and come May 18, the public can share in this history. The Northwest Bergen History Coalition is hosting its third annual History Day on Saturday May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eight historical homes and museums will be open to the public to tour and enjoy, said Sheila Brogan who posted the event on Patch.  Each site will feature a special exhibit of quilts, coverlets, samplers, and other homemade items from their collections. The museums and historic homes on the tour include:

  • The Van Allen House 3 Franklin Ave., Oakland
  • The Zabriskie House 421 Franklin Ave., Wyckoff
  • The Schoolhouse Museum 650 E. Glen Ave., Ridgewood
  • The Hermitage 335 N. Franklin Turnpike, HoHoKus
  • The Fell House 475 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale
  • The Hopper-Goetschius Museum 363 E. Saddle River Rd., Upper Saddle River
  • The Old Stone House 538 Island Rd., Ramsey
  • The Mahwah Museum 201 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah

Tickets for admission to all eight sites are $10 a person, children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased through each of the Coalition's historical societies. They will also be on sale at:

  • the Schoolhouse Museum in Ridgewood on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1 to 3 and Sundays 2 to 4
  • the Mahwah Museum on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 4
  • The Hermitage Wednesday through Sunday 1 to 4
  • Abma's Farm Market in Wyckoff Monday through Saturday 8 to 5:30

Those wishing to purchase tickets by mail may do so by sending a request and a self-addressed stamped envelope to The Schoolhouse Museum 650 East Glen Avenue Ridgewood, NJ 07450. Please make checks payable to the Ridgewood Historical Society.

Tickets will also be on sale at each of the sites on the day of the tour. All proceeds from the ticket sales will be equally divided among the eight historical sites.

"Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to learn more about Northwest Bergen County history and see our stunning collections of homespun artifacts," said Sheila Brogan.

The Coalition will be selling grilled hotdogs and soda at the picnic area at the Hopper-Goetschius House Museum in Upper Saddle River.
