Oakland Man Forged 4 Checks, Stole More Than $2,100: Police
The checks were cashed on 4 consecutive days in July, police said.
OAKLAND, NJ — A borough man was charged with forgery after a monthslong investigation by police into stolen checks, authorities said.
Jared Spingler, 37, was charged with four counts each of forgery, identity theft, and theft, said Detective Lt. Christian Eldridge. He was arrested after police investigated the theft of four checks that were cashed at a local bank in July.
Police received a report July 22 about the stolen checks that were forged and fraudulently cashed at the bank on July 18, 19, 20, and 21, Eldridge said. The amount stolen was $2,140, he said.

Detective Michael Griffin investigated, viewed bank surveillance video footage, and identified Spingler as the offender on all four occasions, Eldridge said.
Oakland police detectives executed four arrest warrants at Spingler's borough home and arrested and charged him, the lieutenant said.

Police took Spingler into custody, and he was lodged in the Bergen County Jail.
