After 35 years, the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland remains one of the only nonprofit, no-kill shelters in Bergen County, finding homes for thousands of furry friends.
On Saturday, Sept. 21, the shelter will showcase that legacy, opening its doors to give the public a behind-the-scenes look at its operations as well as a celebration of its work.
The 35th anniversary celebration will be a "Party at the Shelter," with music, food and tours on tap. For pet owners, training demos and - for the real animal lover - "pictures with your pet" are also slated for the event.
The anniversary party is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2 Shelter Lane in Oakland. The rain date for the event is Sunday, Sept. 22.
