Wi-Fi Coming to Senior Center

Part of a larger project to upgrade the municipality's wireless system.

As part of a broader project to enhance the municipal network, wireless internet will be coming to the Senior Center by the end of the year, borough officials say.

The borough will be installing Wi-Fi access points to four buildings, including the Senior Center, Borough Hall, the DPW Building, and the Council Chambers.

According to borough administrator Richard Kunze, the Senior Center component of the project, which will cost around $1,000, will give the center the ability to hold web-based seminars and presentations.

Senior Center director Rose Burik said that the center may look to develop programs for patrons once the project is completed. The center currently does not provide any access to computers.

Kunze said that the project will also provide residents internet access in the event that the building is used as a backup shelter during storms and power outages.

The center was used as a charging station by Oakland residents last year in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
