Active Shooter Deemed Hoax At Lower Cape May School, PA Woman Charged

A 29-year-old Philadelphia, P.a. woman was identified as the hoax caller, police said.

LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ - A Pennsylvania woman was charged after making a false report of an active school shooter to police in Lower Cape May, authorities said.

The 29-year-old woman from Philadelphia, P.a., who was not named in a police statement, was charged on a summons with third-degree False Public Alarms, Lower Township police said Friday.

The call was made to Cape May County Dispatch on Jan. 23 regarding an active shooter at the Lower Cape May Regional High School, police said.

Following an “immediate multi-agency response,” including active shooter protocols activated by the school, law enforcement officers and first responders, the report was ultimately deemed false, police said.

“The subject is now pending further adjudication,” police said.
