Air Quality Action Day In Ocean City Due To Wildfire Smoke: NWS

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Smoke from the ongoing Canadian wildfires will again be impacting New Jerseyans this week, with an Air Quality Action Day being declared for Ocean City on Thursday by the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS has Cape May County under the poor air quality alert from midnight June 28 to midnight June 29.

"Sensitive individuals, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors," the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection said of Thursday.

The highest concentrations of the unhealthy fine particulates will be in the western portion of the state, officials said.

"Ozone levels are expected to rise into the moderate category as aging wildfire smoke, sunny skies, and transport of emissions from upwind states will result in favorable conditions for ozone," the DEP said.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then a chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
