Beach Run on Friday Evening Benefits Cancer Research

The Sam Robb Memorial Beach 5K/Fun Run is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 6.

The third annual starts at 6 p.m. Friday, July 7, and includes a 5-kilometer out-and-back course on the beach at 40th Street.

The event also includes a 1-mile fun run and a kids' fun run.

The race is named for Sam Robb, a lifelong Ocean City visitor, who died in 2007 at 20 years old. Robb was a 6'5", 230-pound football and basketball player with nagging knee injury that led to frightful diagnosis: bone cancer.

The news came while Robb was still in high school in Roswell, GA, and in five years battling the disease, Robb showed uncharacteristic strength and zeal for sports and life — despite the substantial challenges his treatments presented. (Read more about Robb.)

His mantra survives as the motto of the race: “Fightin' Till the Last Breath.” All proceeds benefit pediatric cancer research.
