Cape May County Government: NOTICE OF DETOUR - FISHING CREEK RD (CR 639) RESURFACING IMPROVEMENTS
See the latest announcement from the Cape May County Government.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ - Beginning on November 10, 2025, the County will be starting roadway improvements to Fishing Creek Road (Cr 639) in Lower Township. The limits of the project are from Tabernacle Road (Cr 647) to Shunpike Road (CR 644). The roadway improvements include installing drainage upgrades, milling the roadway to a depth of 5”and installing a new 3” bituminous base course and 2” bituminous surface course paving. In addition, the intersection of CR 644 and CR 639 will be converted to an All Way Stop Condition (AWSC).
Due to the narrow paving width and limited sight distance along the horizontal curves of the roadway, active construction will occur using a full detour of Fishing Creek Road (CR 639) traffic. Traffic travelling north along CR 639 approaching Shunpike Road will be detoured north onto Shunpike Road then to Tabernacle Road. Traffic will then be directed west along Tabernacle Road back to Fishing Creek Road. Traffic heading south along CR 639 will be detoured onto Tabernacle Road east to Shunpike Road south back to CR 639. The detour will be in place during the day when active construction is taking place. Normal traffic patterns will resume at night and on weekends. Local traffic will be maintained, and residents will always have access to their homes. The project is expected to be completed by the end of December.
