Coastal Flood Advisory Again In Ocean City Thursday: NWS

The advisory takes effect Thursday evening. Ocean City officials said another advisory is anticipated for Friday evening.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Another coastal flood advisory is in effect for Ocean City Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sept. 8, the NWS said.

"A near full moon and strong northeast winds are expected to combine to cause 'minor' coastal flooding," the Ocean City Office of Emergency Management said.

Water levels are predicted to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 7:34 p.m., the OEM said.

Water levels of 6.2 feet on the mean low water scale are predicted by the NWS. In comparison, water levels reached 5.94 on Wednesday evening, the OEM said.

The typical high tide in Ocean City is between three and five feet.

"With a full moon arriving on Saturday (Sept. 10), it’s likely that the NWS will issue another Coastal Flood Advisory for Friday evening (Sept. 9), when the tide will be high at 8:23 p.m.," the OEM said.

Residents should be prepared to to move vehicles to safe places "well in advance" of the high tide, the OEM said.

Roads closer to the beach, such as Central and Wesley avenues, are typically higher in elevation.
Parking is also available at Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Rd in Marmora, though residents are asked to watch out for people and to park away from the Nursery School entrance and church building.

"For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades," the OEM said.
