Dogs Have Their Day At The Pool In Cape May End Of Summer Bash

After a two-year break, bring Fido to jump in the pool at Montreal Beach Resort's Doggie Day Pool Pawty fundraiser at the end of the month.

CAPE MAY, NJ — Montreal Beach Resort is literally going to the dogs. A beloved local tradition, the resort's Doggie Day Pool Pawty returns on Oct. 30, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., after a pandemic break.

"Years ago, after uneventfully closing their pool each season, the owners decided that it would be fun for one day a year to let the pups jump in for a dip," the resort said in a press release. Over the years, it's turned into a community tradition that raises money for Animal Outreach of Cape May.

Madison Resorts and new owner Dan Alicea say they want to bring back the event and carry on the tradition.

"As the new owners of the Montreal Beach Resort we feel like it's important to bring back certain events that are great for the community. I've always been a dog lover myself and I can't imagine a better way to close our pool each year. This should be fun!" Alicea said in a release.

The one-day event marks the end of the resort's summer season. Each participating pup not only will enjoy a final Halloween weekend dip on the pool but each will also be entered in a raffle for a basket valued over $100 donated by Hounds Town South Jersey.

Dogs can join the "pawty" at $10 a dog, while humans get in free. Guests can pay cash at the door, with all the money going towards Animal Outreach of Cape May County, a local non-profit no-kill shelter that promotes initiatives to provide shelter, care and love for the unwanted, abused and/or abandoned animals of Cape May County.

Plus, there will be dog and human vendors alike to celebrate, including doggie ice cream bar Salty Paws, mobile dog "barkery" Black Sheep and Harry's Ocean Bar & Grille with a special doggie menu for Fido, while humans can enjoy dog-themed cocktails.

A waiver is required upon arrival. All dogs must be well-behaved and friendly with other dogs. Guests are encouraged to bring their own towels, with some towels available by the pool.
