Memorial Day Service

The annual Memorial Day Service is set for 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, Fifth Street and Wesley Ave. Principal speaker will be Lt. Col. (Ret.) Michael R. Hrycak, who will be introduced by Jim Scanlon, U.S. Army Veteran. Mayor Jay A. Gillian will offer remarks.

The program will begin with the posting of the colors by L/Cpl Carl Waterman Marine Corps Color Guard. The invocation will be given Rev. Edmund J. Speitel, Chaplain (Col) USA Retired. Lexi Petrilla will sing the 'Star Spangled Banner' and Bill Godsell will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

 There will be POW/MIA table-service given by Bill Cruice. Jack Meehan will play Amazing Grace on the Bag pipes followed by the presentation of the wreath by Ted Bethas and Jack Hagan.

 The most somber part of the service follows: the Reading of the Honor Roll, the names of those who died in the "service of our country," by Bob Marzulli and Brendan E. Gheen.  The playing of Taps by Greg Murphy of Buglers Across America will follow the reading and the benediction will be given by Rev. Speitel.

 Lexi Petrilla will conclude the service by leading in the singing of "God Bless America." Attendees of the service will be invited to the VFW Post of Ocean City, 15th and Bay Ave., for refreshments.

Participating organizations include the United Veterans Council of Ocean City, VFW #6650 of Ocean City, American Legion Post # 524 of Ocean City, Boy Scout Troop #32 and Cub Scout Pack # 51 of Ocean City. 

 In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held across the Street at the Tabernacle Auditorium.
