How Much Is COVID Spreading In Cape May County

Cape May County is among those in the state with a "high" rate of community transmission, according to the CDC.

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — Cape May County and New Jersey continue to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. (See town-by-town data below.)

According to county health department data, there were 450 active cases in the county as of Friday, up from the 302 reported the previous week on Aug. 6. The cumulative cases now stand at 9,657.

"The delta variant continues to be the dominate strain of COVID-19," officials said Friday. "The latest results from the New Jersey Department of Health estimates that 90 percent of the new coronavirus over a four-week period ending on July 24 were from Delta."

In addition to the rise in cases, the Center for Disease Control has also listed Cape May County among those in the state with a "high" rate of community transmission. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

Cape May County officials provided the following breakdown of active cases by town, with active case totals from Aug. 6 in parentheses:

“Cape May County has begun a renewed push to encourage residents to get vaccinated,” officials said. “Through television, radio and print advertising, the County Board of Commissioners is informing residents of the increased transmissibility of the Delta variant and the need for all eligible residents to get vaccinated.”

The Cape May County Department of Health is providing COVID-19 vaccines on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cape May County Park and Zoo, located at 707 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, and Tuesday through Thursday at the Barefoot Country Music Fest, located at 3601 Boardwalk in Wildwood, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Vaccinations are also available every Wednesday at the Cape May County Department of Health building, located at 6 Moore Rd. in Cape May Court House, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“The County’s Department of Health is working tirelessly to ensure that it is easy for people to get vaccinated,” said Cape May County Commissioner Jeff Pierson. “We encourage people to protect themselves and their families by getting the COVID vaccine.”
