Wildwood firefighter Nicholas Palmer is being hailed as a hero for jumping in when a plane passenger suffered a medical emergency.

WILDWOOD, NJ — The City of Wildwood is hailing one of their firefighters as a hero for jumping into action to save a fellow airplane passenger suffering from a medical emergency.
Nicholas “Nick” Palmer was on a flight back from Florida when flight attendants requested medical assistance for a passenger in distress, city officials said in a news release.
Witnesses said that Palmer, who was off-duty, immediately jumped into action.

Palmer calmly took control of the situation and led the effort to stabilize the passenger until the flight landed safety, city officials said. Due to his actions, an emergency landing was averted.
“Nick’s actions are a perfect example of what it means to be a Wildwood firefighter,” said Commissioner of Public Safety Steve Mikulski. “Even off duty, his instinct was to act. His training, confidence, and professionalism helped stabilize a life-threatening situation thousands of feet in the air. We could not be prouder.”

Mikulski emphasized that Palmer’s response reflects the strong foundation built within the Wildwood Fire Department.
“This level of preparedness does not happen by chance. It speaks to the outstanding leadership of Chief Troiano III and Deputy Chief Dunn and the company officers who train, mentor, and set the standard for our firefighters every day,” he said.
