Morning Island Report: Cloudy With a Chance of Jellyfish

We found a little trouble in paradise on Friday morning. Amid a long swim in wonderfully warm, calm and clear water, we encountered our first stinging jellyfish of the season.

He didn't seem to have many friends hanging around. But it may be a sign of things to come. Guess we're not the only ones enjoying that warm water.

The official ocean temperature from Steel Pier in Atlantic City at 7:30 p.m. Friday night: 79.5 degrees.

Light south winds on Saturday shouldn't do much to change that water temp or to bring us any substantial surf. After a little bump on Wednesday and Thursday, the waves were back down to knee-high on Friday.

Up on the beach, the National Weather Service is calling for a cloudy day with a high near 87 degrees. The NWS forecast gives us a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.

"Let me emphasize 'scattered,' as I'm not expecting any washouts," NBC40 meteorologist Dan Skeldon said in a Facebook post on Friday. "I'm also not expecting any severe weather (wind/hail threat) ..."

Low tide on the ocean beaches will be at 10:27 a.m. and high tide at 5:54 p.m.
