Morning Island Report: Relief From the Swelter on Sunday

Weather, waves and tides for Sunday, July 8.

Saturday's high temperature of 99 degrees at Atlantic City International Airport broke the record for any July 7 in recorded history (temperatures have been recorded there since 1958, and in the Atlantic City marina district for more than a century).

The all-time record was set on July 22 and 23 of last summer: 105 degrees.

And though Ocean City was a few degrees cooler than the mainland on Saturday, it was still mighty steamy.

Sunday promises a much more pleasant forecast: a high temperature of 89 degrees, partly sunny skies, a north breeze and a chance of showers that gets greater toward the evening.

The ocean temperature dropped five degrees through the day on Saturday and ended at a perfectly pleasant 70.5 degrees.

The water was cool, calm and clear — and Sunday promises more of the same.

If you're heading to the beach, pack the boogie boards and water toys — as the ocean is going to remain the best place to be on Sunday. You can probably skip the surfboards. There has not been much to work with in the waveriding department — though we did see a few longboarders having some fun with a few anklebiters on Saturday.

High tide on Sunday will be 11:03 a.m. for the ocean beaches, and low tide will be 5:06 p.m.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol ends its patrols at 5:30 p.m. today, and there are no extended hours at the downtown beaches on Sundays.
