New Causeway Taking Toll on Gulls

Almost 40 herring gulls have met an untimely death on the newly designed Route 52 causeway leading to Ninth Street in Ocean City.

The hazard to the coastal birds appears to an unintended consequence of the new fishing piers that are a popular new feature of the $400 million causeway project expected to be fully complete by the end of the year.
