NJ Fireman Hospitalized In Medical Episode Crash After Fire Response
Doctors are "optimistic" on the firefighter's recovery, "although it will be a long one," fire officials said.
TUCKAHOE, NJ - A South Jersey fireman was hospitalized and remains in intensive care after he was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash while returning from a fire response last week, officials said.
The Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company fireman was dispatched to a chimney fire on Feb. 3 at around 7 p.m. in Corbin City, alongside units from Marmora and Seaville; the fire was extinguished after around 45 minutes, Chief Edward J. Carter Sr. and members of the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company said in a statement.
At around 7:50 p.m., while returning to the fire station, members of the Tuckahoe fire company were involved in a crash on the 200 block of Route 50 in Corbin City.

“Crews found a vehicle crash involving a member of Tuckahoe fire, who was also returning to station, had an apparent severe medical event that resulted in the crash,” officials said. Emergency personnel worked to revive the patient and transported him to Atlanticare Mainland Campus.
As of Tuesday, the fireman remains in the intensive care unit (ICU);doctors are “optimistic” on the firefighter’s recovery, “although it will be a long one,” fire officials said. “Currently his family is asking for continued prayers and support, as are the members of his fire company family.”

Carter Sr. and the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company thanked Upper Township Division of EMS, NJ State Police, Atlanticare paramedics, Atlanticare Mainland Campus and “all others who may have helped” respond to the fireman-involved crash.
