'Not Afraid To Use Her Voice': Lauren, Ocean City Star Student

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Jakob Pender who nominated Lauren (Grade 12) of Ocean City. Pender is a friend and former classmate of Lauren's.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Lauren is a student representative to the New Jersey Board of Education. She was the keynote speaker at the NJSBA's 2022 workshop, where she spoke about students' voices and involvement in a post-pandemic environment. At Ocean City High School, Lauren is the Treasurer of Student Council, and is a member of the Drama Guild, Coding Club, Math Club, and National Honor Society. Lauren is not afraid to use her voice to stand up for her fellow students. She is considerate of everyone and a great friend.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Lauren is not afraid to throw her hat in the ring for a leadership position. She always uses her voice to help her peers.
