Ocean City Events: Freckle Contest, Concerts, Soccer and More

Check out some highlights on the event calendar for the next week.

Sneaking away to enjoy the Ocean City sun is a time-honored tradition, and some can't conceal the evidence.

Ocean City celebrates its fair-skinned fans on Thursday (July 12) during the annual , which starts with a 6 p.m. registration on the .

Entry is free, and prizes are awarded. The contest is divided into age groups. You don't have freckles? No problem. There are categories for "Fake Painted On Freckles." The contest starts at 6:30 p.m. Call (609) 525-9300.

Thursday, July 12

The Chip Miller , 7th St. Beach, and mini tournament at Tee Time Golf, 7th and Boardwalk. Family surf and mini golf tournament raises money and awareness for the rare Amyloidosis disease.  For information, call (609) 231-1562 or visit www.chipmiller.org/surffest.

As the 100th Anniversary of WOODY GUTHRIE'S birth draws near, tributes to the folk troubadour, humanitarian and rambling man are planned from as far away as Austria and Germany with hundreds of thousands participating.
Ocean City will present its own tribute on Mon., July 16th, when ARLO GUTHRIE, Woody's renowned son accompanied by talented family members, entertain at 8 p.m. in the Music Pier Auditorium, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.

Woody Guthrie wrote about 3,000 songs, one of which, This Land Is Your Land, has become immensely popular and is sung widely in this country and throughout the world.

Arlo at 65 continues to perform. He is one of the nation's great folk singers and an entertaining story teller like his father. His talking-singing blues classic, Alice's Restaurant, is always enthusiastically greeted at Guthrie concerts. It was expanded into a popular movie, starring Arlo. The story of Alice's Restaurant unfolds on a Thanksgiving Day. The recording is replayed on scores of radio stations throughout the country every year during the holiday.
