Ocean City Pops Helps Peggy Lloyd Celebrate 100th

Ocean City resident Peggy Lloyd celebrated her 100th birthday at a Sept. 10 concert on the Music Pier.

Philanthropist and perennial volunteer Peggy Lloyd was honored at a 100th birthday celebration on Sept. 10 during a concert by the Ocean City Pops Orchestra at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Lloyd has supported the Pops, Ocean City Arts Center and has sponsored swimming lessons for city youngsters over the years among many other causes. A school teacher and outstanding athlete, Lloyd taught skiing and swimming lessons to soldiers on rest and rehabilitation during World War ll.  She was also the chaperone to Miss America for many years traveling the world visiting Veterans Hospitals to cheer the wounded. 
 
A long-time board member and volunteer with the Ocean City Arts Center, Lloyd has financially supported the Center and still runs fund raising bus tours to to museums throughout the area.

Following the concert there was a birthday reception for Peggy at the Flanders Hotel with proceeds benefiting the Scheible Society's Youth Outreach Program.

More than 50 family members, some from as far away as Australia and Hawaii, attended the celebrations.
