Heavy Snow Closes Ocean City Schools On Tuesday

The Ocean City School District announced schools will remain closed on Tuesday after 14 inches of snow piled on roads and sidewalks.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City School District announced schools will remain closed on Tuesday after 14 inches of snow piled on roads and sidewalks in Monday’s winter storm.

The school closure for Tuesday was announced this afternoon at 5 p.m.

"All OCSD Schools will be closed again Tuesday, January 4th due to the storm. Stay safe!" the district's website said.

Double-digit snow totals were also reported in Ocean View and North Cape May at 11.3 and 10.3 inches respectively.

Heavy snow was still falling late Monday afternoon in the southeastern part of the state. Final snow totals are pending from the National Weather Service.

State officials said 2,200 pieces of snow removal equipment will be working overnight to clear and salt roads in areas with significant snow accumulations.

“Folks, if you can, please stay off the roads and let the crews tend to their jobs,” Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday night during a storm briefing.

Programs at the Ocean City Civic Center were canceled on Monday and will reopen on Tuesday. City Hall remains open on a regular schedule.
