Ocean City Teacher Receives National Honors

Amy Andersen, 2017's New Jersey Teacher of the Year, received the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - Ocean City High School has a lot to be proud of with one of their teachers. Amy Andersen, the American Sign Language instructor at Ocean City High School, has been honored with the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence, according to an article from OCNJ Daily.

Andersen, who was previously New Jersey's teacher of the year in 2017, was awarded a check and will be NEA Foundation’s Salute to Excellence in Education gala in Washington, D.C., on February 8, according to OCNJ Daily.

Andersen is part of the 46 teachers from across the country who were recognized for the excellence in teaching and community engagement, according to the National Educator Association Website. At the February gala in Washington D.C., she'll be up for the award of the top educator in the nation that comes with $25,000 prize.

Andersen is one part of the Ocean City education that has been honored over this past year, according to OCNJ Daily. Schools Superintendent Kathleen Taylor was named top superintendent of New Jersey and Ocean City High School Principal Matt Jamison was named as the Principal of the Year by the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association.
