Ocean City's Lance Miller Returns for Premiere of 'The Quest'

Advance tickets are on sale now for the documentary that will be shown 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Ocean City native Lance Miller returns to the town where he grew up to attend a special screening of "The Quest" documentary, an emotional story about the history of Corvette racing and his father’s dream.

This event takes place following the Boardwalk Corvette Show on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Ocean City Music Pier on the Boardwalk. The historic 1960 #3 Corvette featured in the film will be on display at 5 p.m., followed by the screening at 6 p.m. and a Meet-and-Greet with the filmmakers at 7:45 p.m.

"The Quest" chronicles the beginnings of Corvette Racing at the famed Le Mans 24 Hour Endurance Race in France in 1960. Following the race, all the Corvettes that participated in this race were lost for decades. Because of the historical significance of these cars, many tried to find them.

Corvettes at Carlisle co-founder Chip Miller set a personal goal of finding the 1960 class-winning #3 Corvette, acquiring it, and restoring it. Finally, he wanted to return it to Le Mans in 2010, with one of the original drivers, legendary racer John Fitch, to mark the 50th anniversary of the car’s win. His vision was tragically cut short by a rare disease called Amyloidosis.

While "The Quest" reveals the story behind the historic race and what happened to the cars in that race, it is really a story about best friends, a unique bond between a father and a son. Sharing his father’s passion for Corvettes and racing, Lance Miller knew what he had to do to honor his father’s wish, when his father could no longer achieve it on his own.

In 2004, just a few short months after Chip was diagnosed with Amyloidosis, the world lost an incredibly special human being. Had Chip and his doctors been aware of the symptoms of the disease when they first presented, this legend might still be with us today. At that time, family and friends founded the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation (CMCF) to empower people with the knowledge and understanding of Amyloidosis for earlier detection, ensuring a better quality of life for those afflicted with the disease and to help science find the cures. This screening of "The Quest" and many others across the country benefit the foundation.

“Bringing 'The Quest' to my amazing hometown of Ocean City means so much to me,“ said Lance Miller, CMCF Board President. “Each summer, the Ocean City community comes together at an annual Surf Fest to support our foundation in our mission to raise awareness of Amyloidosis. I’m so grateful for this continual outpouring of support from the community. Mayor Jay Gillian and the City of Ocean City continue to be very supportive and it’s truly a privilege to be part of a community that gives back.”

It is a unique opportunity to see the 1960 Le Mans Corvette on display at the movie premiere. Kevin McKay, Chip's dear friend who found the car for him and restored it back to its Le Mans racing pedigree, as well as Michael Brown, the Oscar nominated Director that made this film, will be at the meet and greet for this event.

Corvette Enthusiast Corey Korpita will be creating two sand sculptures next to the Music Pier. One will feature the #3 car and the other will portray the new C7 Corvette.

Corvette enthusiasts will enjoy THE QUEST, but the story of family, a son’s love for his father, and making dreams come true is an inspiring story for all.

Tickets are $20.00 with all proceeds going to The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation.Tickets are just $20 and all proceeds go to the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation.  Tickets can be purchased online at http://chipmiller.org/th_event/the-quest-documentary/.
