SOMERS POINT, NJ — It's official: Ocean State Job Lot is opening in Somers Point and Cape May, replacing the now-shuttered Big Lots.

Patch reported last month that the chain was seeking to take over several Big Lots leases, including in Somers Point. The company confirmed to Patch Wednesday that the Somers Point and Cape May locations are slated to open by mid-summer.

“This is an exciting chapter for us,” said Marc Perlman, principal owner and CEO, Ocean State Job Lot. “Expanding into new markets has long been part of our strategic plan, but like everything else we do, it needs to be done with value in mind. We look forward to introducing our unique brand, friendly service, and extraordinary savings to customers in each of these new communities.”

The Somers Point and Cape May stores are among 15 former Big Lots locations in eight states that Ocean State Job Lot is taking over. Up to 70 positions will be hired at each store; former Big Lots employees will be offered positions.

Similar to Big Lots, Ocean State Job Lot is a discount retailer offering a wide variety of brand name merchandise. Currently, the store has no presence in Atlantic or Cape May counties.
