Permanent Superintendent Search Continues In Ocean City

Ocean City Schools has an interim superintendent at its helm while the district continues to look for a permanent replacement.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — A search is underway for a permanent superintendent in the Ocean City School District to fill the seat that longtime Superintendent Kathleen Taylor vacated this month when she officially retired.

Dr. Thomas Baruffi will sit in as the interim superintendent until a new candidate has been approved.

Baruffi served numerous superintendent roles throughout his career, including superintendent of Linwood Public Schools for about eight years, according to a news release.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Baruffi,” said board member Cecilia Gallelli-Keyes. “It’s a relief that we have someone as capable and qualified as Dr. Baruffi is to take on this temporary role, but it’s still important that we continue to focus on finding our permanent replacement.”

The Ocean City Board of Education has sought professional search consultant services to conduct a nationwide search for a superintendent.

Consultants have been working closely with search committee members to expand on the recruitment process which includes actively seeking candidates, focus groups, open house forums and an online community survey.

The survey is planned to be released before the start of fall and will help develop the profile of the next superintendent by outlining their desired characteristics. The survey and job listing will be running concurrently.
