Rain, Hurricane Impact Ocean City Beach Days: Check Out Rainy Day Activities

OCEAN CITY, NJ — It's raining and Hurricane Erin is churning up some nasty waves and rip currents. All in all, it's definitely not a great beach day. But if you're here, there's still plenty of fun activities to enjoy without needing the beach.

Wednesday and Thursday will be rainy; Friday should be sunny, according to the forecast, so you're free to sit on the beach and enjoy. Just listen to lifeguards on whether or not you can actually go for a swim.

In the meantime, here are some other activities to check out around the island:

Visit the Ocean City Free Public Library

The library offers more than just books (though reading is also a good way to pass the day). You can attend author talks, classes, movie screenings and more. Just visit their event page to see what's on the schedule.

It's also housed in the Ocean City Community Center, so you can also visit the historical museum and arts center while you're there.

Check out the movie theatre

Moorlyn Square Theatre is a small venue, but is still playing the latest hits like "Superman" and "Freakier Friday." It's open daily and has multiple showtimes. See what's currently playing here.

Hit up the arcade

Jilly's Arcade offers classic games like skeeball, pinball, arcade machines and more. Once you've played to your heart's content, visit the connected Jilly's Ice Cream Factory for a sweet treat.

Explore downtown shops

Families will enjoy visiting The Board Room and playing board or card games. There are tons of great stores to explore, like Glazed Over Studio for pottery painting, Coastal Creations Studio for all sorts of crafts, Discovery Seashell Museum and much more.
