Senior Driver Dies After Crashing Into Multiple Trees, South Jersey Police Say

The 83-year-old Mays Landing man's Cadillac Escalade left the roadway and collided with multiple trees in the single-vehicle crash: police.

HAMILTON, NJ — An 83-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash Monday when his SUV left the road and collided with multiple trees, Township of Hamilton police said in a news release.

Leonard Spaeth Jr., a Mays Landing resident, was heading west on Harding Highway (US Route 40) at about 11:40 a.m. when his 2020 Cadillac Escalade left the roadway, police said.

Spaeth collided with multiple trees, police said.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Traffic was diverted for about two hours Monday.

Assisting on scene was the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Mays Landing and Laureldale Fire Departments as well as the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Township of Hamilton Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Ofc. McKnight at 609-625-2700.
